ATAR Head Start · Year 11 to Year 12 · Student Edition
Finish Year 11 French strong and start Year 12 ready: a six-week summer program you can do on your own, with every answer included.
ATAR Head Start (Student Edition) is written for students moving from Year 11 to Year 12 French: Second Language ATAR, and for parents who want to support them over the summer. No teacher is needed: a clear start-here guide, a week-by-week plan and a separate answers document let students work, mark and improve on their own.
What's inside
Study Booklet (29 pages): a three-page start-here guide (how to use the booklet, a six-week summer plan, how to mark your own work strictly, an error log); a diagnostic and three priorities; nine core grammar structures with practice (present, perfect, imperfect, perfect vs imperfect, futures, conditional, object pronouns, relative pronouns, subjunctive); connectives and two translations (English to French, French to English); two listening texts and two reading texts with ATAR-style questions in English (64 marks in all); a model paragraph workshop; a Part A writing task (a reply to a French forum post, about 150 words) and a Part B article (about 200 words); oral practice and an end-of-summer check.
Answers & Model Responses (15 pages, separate PDF): every grammar answer, model translations with a 10-mark guide, both listening transcripts and marking keys, reading keys with the evidence for every true/false item, a 20-mark writing rubric with descriptors for each criterion (so students can score themselves), annotated Part A and Part B model answers, and a model oral answer with follow-up questions.
Two MP3 listening tracks (text-to-speech audio), each played twice with a 30-second pause, as in the exam.
Real francophone contexts
Made in WA, for WA students, and set where French is lived: a radio interview with a young speed skater in Québec, a travel podcast from Senegal, a running group in Belgium, hiking in La Réunion, a winter in Switzerland and a school exchange in New Caledonia. All texts are written for this student edition.
How it helps
Students find their gaps, fix them before Year 12 starts and check every answer straight away. The model answers show how to turn a basic sentence into a developed, accurate response, and the Part A and Part B tasks follow the format of the Year 12 written exam.
Aligned to the current ATAR course (French: Second Language, Years 11–12). Print-ready PDFs (A4) and MP3 audio. This is an Érudits resource, not official SCSA material.
The student edition is licensed for the personal use of one student (the student it was bought for).
